RT4 vs. RT3
[
RT4 Home
]
The Carlson RT4 is an
enhanced version of the Carlson RT3.
These devices are based on
(identical to specific models of)
the Juniper Systems Mesa 2 and Mesa 3 field computers:
RT3
= Mesa 2
RT4
= Mesa 3
In a nutshell, the RT4 has
twice the memory, the memory is twice as fast, the disk is twice as
big, the processor is twice as fast and the RT4 has better Bluetooth
and Wi-Fi.
This results in a much
faster field computer. Where the RT3 was slow to boot and update,
the RT4 is a whole new experience and is ready for demanding field
use.
The price of the RT4 Basic
is approximately $350 less than the RT3 GEO (roughly comparable
devices.)
The RT4 is compatible with
Version 6.06 and higher only. Earlier versions of SurvPC will not
work with the RT4.
Memory

Twice the memory (this is a
big deal)!
RT4:
8 GB LPDDR4
RT3: 4 GB
LPDDR3
DDR4 has 35% better
power efficiency than DDR3.
DDR4 is about twice as fast.
Storage
Twice the storage (disk
drive) space
RT4:
128 GB Flash Storage RT3:
64 GB Flash Storage
In addition to the built in
storage (C:\) there is a microSDXC card slot that is optimized for
32 GB to 2 TB UHS-I, II, III, Express cards. (Samsung memory is
recommended, however other brands also work.)
Processor
Essentially twice as fast,
across the board.

CPUWorld ]
Graphics speed is also
greatly enhanced:
RT4:
18 execution units, Gen 9
RT3: 4
execution units, Gen 7
Communication
The RT4 adds 2x2 MIMO 5-GHz
Wi-Fi.
Bluetooth is upped to 5.0
from 4.0 which offers: twice the speed, four times the range, lower
power, larger message size and better IoT support.
